Lighting your driveway stands a lot of purpose. It helps you see the path you will be taking when going in and out of your house thus lowering the risk of damaging your car and lawn and also provides aesthetic effects to your house.
There are two designs that you can implement in lighting your driveway. The FIRST is path lighting. In this type of design, the lights are arranged on the side of the path either buried on the pavement or placed above.
In path lighting, you can use either low voltage light or solar light. Low voltage lights are cost effective and at the same time easy to install without the need to hire a professional electrician. It actually comes in a kit with variety of lights in it as well as a low voltage box and the wires needed. All you have to do is to follow the instruction that is provided together with the kit. The wires should be buried on the ground to make it look organized. Make sure that the depth is not too deep so that if there would be a problem, it is not difficult to retrieve the wires.
Solar lights can be used instead of low voltage lights. Solar lights are also cost effective but do not deal with wires unlike with the voltage lights. All you have to do is to buy and directly place where the lights should be located. Make sure that the device receives appropriate sunlight since they are powered by solar energy. If there would be a time when the weather is poor, the solar light could still illuminate at night but not as bright as with the fully charged ones. Some solar lights require setting up before placing it on your desired location. The setting up is easy and deals about the timing as to when will it illuminate.
Another design on which you can try is Post Lighting. In this type of design, post lamps are needed but if your driveway is lined with trees, you can actually make use of these and just place 2-3 lights on every tree. Post lighting needs 120 volts electricity thus not that cost effective. The maintenance is also expensive and tiresome since you need to buy replacement for damaged parts which are expensive and go up in a tree or climb a ladder just to gain access to the lights. You also will need to hire an electrician for its installation.
If your budget allows you to have a post light, you can do so. The thing to remember is to purchase lights that are not that bright since the purpose is only to provide visibility on the road and not for reading! Lights that illuminate much take more electricity than those that are not.
Whatever design you want to incorporate, be sure to make the most out of it and not risk its purpose for beautification.
