Shopping In Murcia

If you are visiting the province of Murcia this summer then you should definitely go for the cities of Cartagena, the capital city of Murcia, and Cieza. After having your fill of the sights, attractions, and history of the city, the next thing that one would inevitably be on the lookout for are the shopping destinations in Murcia. Whatever your shopping needs are, this city has it for you whether you are shopping for food, supplies, or souvenirs.

Whether you are shopping for your food or just want to check out what other people have been saying about, the Mercado Veronica near the Palacio Almudi is worth a visit. The market was built in 1914 and many of the vendors here are descendants of the original traders manning the same booths. This covered market sells a wide variety of fresh produce that the region is famous for. Fish, prawns, and other seafood are also sold here as well as meats like pork, rabbit, and even freshly harvested snails.
Sausages, hams, bacon, dried fish, cheese, herbs, and spice also add to the colorful sight and vibrant smells that fill up this covered market. Mercado Veronica is opens in the early morning until lunchtime, from Mondays to Saturdays.

For those who have opted for self-catering accommodations, getting supplies such as small household items, toiletries, groceries, and wines is important. The El Corte Ingles located at the Avenida Libertad is the place to go for this. This department store is part of a chain of department stores and is a household name in Spain. El Corte is open Monday to Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM. The store gets dressed up during Christmas with a lively light display.

For souvenirs and shopping bargains, try exploring the pedestrian street of Calle Traperia between the Cathedral and Plaza de Santo Domingo. There is also a flea market at Jeronimo de Roda right behind the El Corte Ingles department store. A profusion of trinkets, clothes, jewelry, and other souvenir items are sold here. For a more high end shopping experience, head off to Calle Jaboneria where boutiques sell international and Spanish designer labels. In December, the place gets more high end as the sidewalks are covered with a red carpet.

Shopping at a holiday destination can be a lot of fun especially if there are a lot of options to choose from. Murcia is a shopper’s paradise whether one is on the lookout for fresh food and spices, supplies and souvenirs, or designer clothing and accessories. The Mercado Veronica, El Corte Ingles, and the stores at the Calle Traperia, Jeronimo de Roda and Calle Jaboneria cater to every type of shopper and budget.
