The ABC’s of mobility scooter use

Bought your scooter? What next? Take it for a ride? Not yet. There are several things you have to learn before having it your way with your mobility scooter. Among them is training. Even though the operations of the scooter may deem to be common knowledge, you should note that ignorance is punishable during the life time of its implementation. For example, taking the scooter for a ride after ignoring basic operation training may be tested by a malfunction and any incompetence will be rewarded with a crash or even severely with broken limbs.

The following are steps on what you should do before getting on your scooter voyages. Practice them as many times as possible before each start until they become a fixed routine.

1. Initiate a quick check up before start up
This includes checking the battery charge level. The wheels must be well balanced and if they use air tubes then they should be fully inflated. The braking system must be examined regularly for signs of lose fitting or chippings.

2. Quick testing of the moving units
This is in reference to the tires and steering. These are the most important parts of the mobility scooter. Their condition must be of the highest level before a trip.

3. Test ride
The reason for this testing is to ensure there are no unnoticed changes that may have occurred that will sabotage its use. This includes making adjustments to have the seat fit perfectly.

Note that after every use of the scooter cleaning must be done to make it ready for the next day. Cleaning must involve clearing mud and sand that may be hindering the wheels’ movements. Grass and other fibers that might have stuck on the wheel should be removed. Oil the wheels as regularly as possible before storage. It is when you have checked all these will you be able to enjoy a safe tour with your mobility scooter.
